50 Years of Equal Opportunities
NEWWThe European Platform of Women Scientists organised a lunch debate in the European Parliament in Brussels on the 4th of July 2007, hosted by MEP Zita Gurmai, Vice- Chairwoman of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. Given the need for at least 700 000 additional researchers in Europe in order to make the Union the most competitive knowledge-based economy in the world1, the EU cannot afford to waste the talent and expertise of its women scientists.

OSI New Director of International Women's Program
NEWWThe Open Society Institute today announced the appointment of Maryam Elahi as the new director of the International Women's Program. Under her leadership, the International Women's Program will collaborate with the global Soros foundations network to further develop programs and grantmaking on women's human rights, gender equality, and the role of women and girls in transitional justice.

Nordic Council NGO Programme
NEWWNew call for applications under the Nordic Council of Ministers's Support programme for NGOs in the Baltic Sea Region is open. Grants up to 500.000 DKK could be awarded for good multipartner cooperation projects aimed at supporting and strengthening civil society/NGOs in the region.

EFF Invitation
NEWWSince the end of last year a process has started to prepare the first European Feminist Forum (EFF), planned for 13-15 June 2008. The EFF secretariat had called last year to start 'Affinity Groups' on different subjects to prepare the Forum, and so a group was started focussing on women and tech, ICT, New Media - called 'agitate' (Affinity Group InformaTion And new TEchnologies).

Aid for Trade
NEWWWIDE was invited to a roundtable discussion on "What added value to seek from an EU strategy on Aid for Trade?" hosted on 5 June by David Martin, Member of the European Parliament socialist group. The two main questions were: "what is required by the EU to deliver on financial commitments for Trade Related Assistance (TRA), as well as on the wider aid for trade agenda?" and "how to ensure quality and aid effectiveness of the EU's Aid for Trade strategy?" Representatives of DG Development and DG Trade, MEPs, NGOs, and representatives of EU member states and developing countries participated in the discussion.

UN Trust Fund Project in Tajikistan

Documentation Centre of La Strada
NEWWThis documentation centre provides background information on trafficking, such as manuals for practitioners, legal texts and analyses, NGO statements and academic research articles. LSI is also developing a comprehensive collection of La Strada publications. All record entries contain details on the document (title, author, date and type of document) as well as a short summary.
