Women's Day in Poland - Thousands of Demonstrators on the Streets of Major Cities
Before Gdansk Demonstration.
Polish feminists are marking the International Women’s Day with street marches in Warsaw and other big cities. In Warsaw – the demonstrators chose a motto suggesting that successive governments have been offering women empty words and promises they did not intend to fulfill.
The feminists are calling on the government to start refunding in vitro fertilization procedures. They are also calling attention to the problem of battered women and the separation of the church from the state.
Iza Desperak is one of the organizes of the women’s demonstrations.
‘ There is hardly any public discussion on women, equal rights in our daily practice. This one day is for us, on this day the news focus on women and we are using this opportunity to speak out.’
