Deadline for applications for Professor Isabel Marcus' domestic violence fellowship at the university at Buffalo has been extended to April 10, 2007.

An exciting educational and practice-oriented opportunity for a young practicing lawyer with a deep interest in domestic violence legal issues (primarily against women and children) who works with or in a Non-Governmental Organization concerned with domestic violence in her country (in Central Eastern Europe, the CIS, the Balkans, the Caucasus or the Central Asian Republics). She must be committed to continue working in the family violence field in her country after completing the fellowship.

The fellowship program will bring the successful applicant to the Law Faculty of the State University of New York at Buffalo (www.law.buffalo.edu) for four months – the Fall 2007 term (beginning September – middle of December 2007). She will work with the faculty of the Family Violence Clinic (see http://law.buffalo.edu/familyviolence/), participate in a law school class on Family Violence and spend extensive time in a supervised practice-oriented internship with officials in institutions (police, prosecutors, judges in Family Court, and the Integrated Domestic Violence Court), staff in agencies (the Innovative Family Justice Center, Child Protective Services and other social work agencies), advocates and organizers, NGOs working on family violence issues (the women’s shelter and organizers intervention programs for violent men), and staff in medical and mental health facilities. She also will work with Professor Isabel Marcus, the founder of this fellowship.

The successful applicant will receive a round-trip airplane ticket, a room and private bathroom in the apartment of Professor Marcus, between $500-$600 per month for food and other living expenses and books, and complete access to law faculty and university libraries.

To apply for this fellowship, send as attachments:

- a letter of interest describing yourself, your actual work on domestic violence issues;
-a description of your NGO and its work and a letter of recommendation from your NGO or employer
- two additional letters of recommendation if possible from a law school professor and from practicing lawyers or judges who are familiar with your work;
