CEE Bankwatch Network (Bankwatch) is looking to recruit for a project coordinator to coordinate a three year international awareness-raising project focused on the role of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the global south.

The person, starting as soon as possible but no later than March 1st 2007, would be based in either of Bankwatch’s offices in Krakow, Poland or Prague, Czech Republic.

Bankwatch is leading a 3-year project involving a trans-European NGO consortium entitled: “Enhancing the ability of the European Investment Bank to deliver on development goals through awareness-raising on its current and potential role in developing countries”. The project will be implemented by a consortium of NGOs located in various EU member states.

The EIB has been the ‘house bank’ of the European Union since 1958 and its role in the developing world is set to increase in the coming years, with a variety of problematic issues attached.

The NGO consortium plans to:
 Organise expert meetings on the EIB’s current lending framework to determine what change is needed to ensure the bank delivers positively when financing outside the EU
 Carry out advocacy work on the upcoming review of the EIB's environmental and social policies and anti-corruption guidelines
 Strive to increase the accountability of the EIB towards affected communities in the global south and European citizens
 Produce a wide array of awareness-raising tools to inform civil society groups, policy makers and the media about the EIB's activities and the need for its reform
 Strengthen relations between EU-based NGOs and civil society groups in developing countries where the EIB is active through communications links, publications and workshops; and
 Ensure the presence of an informed, critical civil society voice in the EIB’s mid-term assessment in 2010.

This work will take place in EU member states in collaboration with local partners outside the EU. The project’s political work will be led by a Steering Committee comprising of all the groups active in the NGO consortium.

The Project Coordinator will be employed by CEE Bankwatch Network and will be responsible to the Steering Committee.

For the position of Project Coordinator we are looking for a highly organised, experienced, energetic and motivated individual with experience in leading European or international projects, preferably in the NGO sector.

- maintaining an overview of the key issues, relevant research, critical events and policy developments related to the EIB
- contributing to the strategic development of the NGO consortium’s work
- assisting with the planning, budgeting, fundraising, monitoring and reporting related to the NGO consortium’s activities

Experience required ideally:
- At least three years’ experience in coordinating NGOs projects at an international or European level
