Partners Meetings

Gdańsk, 27-28 May, 2010

On 27-28th of May 2010 in Gdańsk took place second Partners’ meeting, planned for the “South Baltic – domestic violence free zone” project. In the meeting participated partners from Poland, Lithuania and Sweden.
During the meeting, which was held in NEWW’s Office, partners discussed the issues concerning further implementation of the project, upcoming actions and social campaign, which is going to start in the autumn.
One of the most important issues discussed during the meeting was the shape of the regional report about domestic violence against women in South Baltic region.
Report, which consists of two main parts, will present the actions and policy planning undertaken in partners’ countries. Also, it will present the statistics and range of problem of domestic violence in each country, as well as social approach to the violence within the family. The second part will be concentrated on the domestic violence problem in Kaliningrad region. We have to be aware, that the collapse of the Soviet Union has led to political, economic, and social challenges for most Russians. As a result, they have faced high unemployment rates, wage cuts and delays, and unsafe working conditions. Women have been severely hit by the unstable conditions. Domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and human trafficking are serious problems in contemporary Russia (including Kalinigrad).
During the meeting Partners discussed the order of upcoming activities, which would be undertaken within the social campaign framework. The social campaign will start in October 2010 and will consist of two core events. One of them will be publication of the regional report on domestic violence against women; the second will be emission of the social advertisement. Around this two core events we will organize series of meetings with politicians and press reporters and journalists, as well as representatives of regional organizations fighting domestic violence. During those meeting we will concentrate on the promotion of the project and also the promotion of the idea of common, transboundary fight with domestic violence against women. The effect of those meeting will be creation of international network of organizations dealing with domestic violence issues, as well as delivering help and support to the victims.
