The International Week of Support for Victims of Crimes will take place in Poland from Monday, 21 February to Friday, 25 February 2011. On this occasion the Network of East-West Women, NEWW-Polska will organize an international conference:
"Raising Awareness and Working Together to Combat Domestic Violence against Women in South Baltic Region".
The Conference is a part of the project “South Baltic Violence Free Zone” which is part-financed by the European Union Regional Development Fund. The main goal of the project is to raise awareness on domestic violence against women, spread the knowledge and share good practices on combating violence against women. NEWW-Polska’s partners in this international cooperation to combat and prevent violence against women are: Kretinga Information and Training Centre from Lithuania and Women’s Shelter Karlshamn from Sweden.
The aim of the conference is to share and promote methods and solutions used in South Baltic countries to combat violence and support the victims.
During the conference our guests from Lithuania and Sweden will present their achievements in the field of combating violence and share their knowledge and ideas. The special experts, who will participate in the meeting, are: Pierrette Pape from European Women Lobby, Brussels and Wiveca Holst from European Women Lobby, Sweden – they will present the domestic violence challenges and opportunities at the European level.
The project “South Baltic – Violence Free Zone” has been implemented for almost 2 years. During this time a series of seminars and study visits took place in Poland, Sweden and Lithuania, which allowed participants from South Baltic countries to share information and knowledge on the issue of domestic violence. As the effect of the international cooperation the report “Domestic violence in the South Baltic Region: Kaliningrad, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden” has been published. The report presents complex knowledge on procedures and initiatives regarding domestic violence in four countries [report available for downloading here]. Also the spot which raise awareness on domestic violence against women [the spot available to see here] was created as part of the project.
One of the objectives of the project is to create a network in the South Baltic Region that would help oppose violence against women.
The Conference is organized in cooperation with Atheneum University in Gdansk.
The conference is being under patronage of the President of The City of Gdansk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Region, Union of the Baltic Cities and Gdansk and Metropolis European Capital of Culture 2016 – Candidate.
Participation in the conference is free of charge.
